Your brother is actually named after the film star Christian Slater? I never in a million years would think someone could like/rate him so much that they'd name a child after him. Was it True Romance that sealed the deal? Because he was decent in that.

Robbie Slater is #4 on my Top 10 Favourite Gingers list.

I dunno why he's named after him, I just knew it was between that and Kiefer (after Keifer Sutherland).

Kill The Irishman 2011

Tells the true story of Danny Greene Irish hardman working with (and against) the mob in 1970s Cleveland. Good stuff this maybe gets a bit over sentimental on the Irish thing from time to time and Vinnie Jones with an Oirish accent is a fucking joke. Very good performances from Ray Stevenson (who also played a right hard bastard in Rome) and Christopher Walken. Kept me well interested.

I watched 4 Lions again the other night and there was this American guy there who's into film and good TV stuff and he just didn't know what to make of it so that tells me they've got something right there.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - 2011

Crap title aside (having "of the" twice in the title is retarded), this was more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Slightly disappointing CGI on the chimp itself, I would've thought they'd do better than that, considering there have been some stunning effects in recent years. But...it was enough to make you feel some emotion for the chimp, even though it wasn't a real one. I found the whole "leash" thing a little...strange. There were a couple of points where it was like, "erm...okay, this is uncomfortably slave-like", whether that's what they were going for, I'm not sure, but it was quite strange.

I expected the movie to be at least two hours, but it seemed pretty short (maybe just over 90 mins), so they've left it open for a sequel - clearly.

The Guard 2011

Not sure how generally this was released, it has certainly been popular over here. It's a cop movie with a difference, set in the wilds of West Ireland about a 'bumpkin' police sergeant whose town is overcome by the FBI and Dublin city police to try and catch some drug smugglers shipping crack across the Atlantic.

Brendan Gleeson plays the lead (he of "In Bruges" fame) and is very funny in the role of a 'set in his ways' old school Garda officer. I thought at first the overuse of the F-word that it was going to be a very stereotypical Irish movie full of swearing and drink-related humour, it is this, but a lot more too.

Gleeson plays Sgt. Gerry Boyle who turns out to be a wily old fox and, if you think Clint Eastwood is cool as Dirty Harry, then see this guy in action!! He is well supported by Don Cheadle as the FBI agent who really does get his eyes opened by Boyle's manner and techniques.

It's a relatively low budget affair but this only adds to the remote "Irishness" of the setting. As well as Cheadle Gleeson is ably supported by Liam Cunningham and Mark Strong as the "Bad boys". Suffice to say that you will guess the ending before it comes but will be more than entertained en route...

...an Oirish 8.

Hanna 2011

Don't know what i was expecting with this but was pleasantly surprised, not an out and out action movie (too cerebral).Saorsie Ronan is excellent as the Titular teen assassin and Eric Bana is his usual superb self and there is an ace cameo from Tom Hollander as a Paedophile/Gay German Hitman, and to cap it all a brilliant soundtrack courtesy of The Chemical Brothers

No offence, but I can never trust your ratings. I don't think you've rated anything below an 8/10, like, ever. :/

Watch 2012 and write a review for that. If you don't give that shower of shite anything but a 2/10 or lower then I'm not being your friend anymore!

Never have I looked forward to and been disappointed so much by a film. The script is terrible, the acting is bad, the effects aren't great, and they spent a LOT of money on it. John Cusack went well down in my estimations after that. Woody Harrelson, too.

It's the worst kind of double negative, the sneaky double negative that you don't really notice at first.
