Funny Games 2007

A family is captured by a couple of young psychotic killers who abuse the life out of them in a very affected manner. Tim Roth as the father here, this held my attention throughout and the performances of the two young killlers were very good.

Yep that's the one, not seen any of them and after this one I won't be in much of a rush.

Well, one is Essex Boys, starring Sean Bean, and it's pretty good. But yeah, there's no real empathy with any of the characters. Then there's Rise of the Footsoldier, which again is pretty good, incredibly violent, and again doesn't really make you feel anything positive towards the characters involved. I think there's another out there, too, but I haven't seen it. It could possibly be the one you've just watched.

Dunno, never seen Layer Cake, but I'm pretty sure it's not based on a true story. scratch

The American 2010

Largely an excuse for George Clooney to make a film in a beautiful Italian setting. He's an assassin trying to kick the habit and whilst doing so falls for a hooker (never a good idea). That's pretty much it really but Clooney and the Italian scenery perform well.

Moon 2009

Not sure why this film ever got made, uninteresting, over used plot hardly kept my attention. Even Kevin Spacey as the voice of the machine did not redeem this.

I lost interest in Moon, too. I know a few people who think it's a great movie, but I didn't "get it", and I was unsure if there was actually anything TO get.

Vicky Christina Barcelona 2009

Woody Allen penned and directed has 2 American girls summering in Barcelona and Javier Bardem as a bohemian type thrown into the mix along with his fit but barmy ex wife. Javier does OK with all 3 and manages to achieve a double up with Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz consistently. The film has its charm but never reaches the heights of some of Woody's previous offerings.

Another one with Matt Damon and a host of other stars, though poor Gwynneth kops it within 10 minutes!

This is another Worldwide virus threat movie and, it has to be said, pretty generic, doesn't break too much delft but it kept my attention for the best part of 2 hours, so it is watchable. Makes you think (a little) about how real this kinda threat could be. Ends suddenly but not without explaining things.

Gotta say I felt like it was a poor effort just from the trailer. Seems like one of those films the lead actors won't be particularly proud of in years to come. In a similar way to you, though, I did think it could have some thought-provoking material due to the nature of the script. Scary stuff. pale

Isn't the main plot the fact he has this dual personality he's created through being stuck out in space so long? I'm unsure because I think I spent half the film browsing on here or Facebook. It's definitely bollocks from what I remember. I like the lead actor, though. I forget his name but he was in something I saw recently with Hilary Swank - Convicted or Conviction, something like that.

*realises he has Google just a click away*

Aye, Sam Rockwell is the guy's name. And it's Conviction. Worth a look but not something to get particularly excited about. I like a good, solid courtroom drama, and this delivers what it's meant to, as well as having the beautiful Hilary Swank as the lead role. I fell in love with her after watching Million Dollar Baby, which is a movie everyone should see if they haven't already.

It's not a dual personality, he's a clone who they replace with another clone every few years or when one has an accident but he doesn't know that he's a clone.

The Son of No One - 2011

What I usually do when I'm looking for a film is I go to my regular torrent sites and see what the best-seeded ones are, then look them up on IMDb to see if they're worth a look. With this one, however, I ignored the 5.7/10 rating because the cast looked so good on paper. Ray Liotta and Al Pacino in the same film? Yes, please.

In hindsight, I should've took more notice of the reviews. Poorly written, crap 'twists', more holes than a Swiss cheese, slow, drawn-out tosh. I think this is the third recent movie I've seen starring Al Pacino that's been inexplicably shite. If you have a reputation like he does, why sell yourself out to crap scripts just because you're coming to the end of your career (or life) just to make an extra dollar?

Also, the below statistic has to be the worst thing I've ever seen, so much so that I had to check on about six different sites to see if it was correct:

Budget - $15,000,000

Gross income in U.S. - $28,870

Well done to whoever came up with this idea. You're suffering now, aren't you? Fools.

They spent that much and yet they can't have spent any of it on marketing, I've never heard of it.

I'd imagine most of the cost went on the cast members; Katie Holmes, Pacino, and Liotta can't come cheap. I'd never heard of it, either.

Just watched The Golden Compass, based on Phillip Pulman's book Northern Lights. It was bobbins, they really simplified the storyline and even gave it a happy ending sick The kid actors were rubbish too.

I was hoping for a glowing recommendation when I saw there was a post in this thread. Sad

I find most child actors irritating and cringeworthy, even if they're particularly good. I dunno why, but kids reading from scripts makes me feel really uncomfortable.
