cant create a thread to ask the question so thought id ask here

My company has just told me they want me to go to Turkey by the end of this month for 3 days, great I thought but then I realised my passport expires on May2011, less than 6months. Would I have a problem going there if its only for 3days?

If it doesn't expire 'til May then why would you have a problem going at the end of January? scratch

Some countries need you to have at least 6 months remaining on your passport. I suppose it's for some concern about it expiring maybe. Bit strange though.

Yeah, that's stupid. A passport should expre on the expiry date, not six months before. Rolling Eyes

Turkey aren't in the EU, no, but even if they were, Dodgy would still need a valid passport to travel there.

Sorry Dodgy only just seen this.

It would be a problem as someone pointed out you need to have at least 6 months valid on your passport to gain admission to Turkey.

You can transfer any time on your current passport onto your next passport. It's just whether they can do it in time for the end of January.

Just had a look and you can get a one week fast track renewal if you're willing to pay an extra £35 on top of your £77.50 renewal fee.

So if you're going to Turkey you're going to need an expense account. Wink

If it's an expense that wouldn't normally be incurred then there's a case for claiming it back. He wouldn't need to rush the renewal of his passport if it wasn't for work, so they should either send someone else or pay the difference.

They can't take action against an employee for submitting a reasonable alternative unless travelling abroad is a contractual obligation or they gave sufficient notice for the passport to have been renewed at the usual cost.

At the very least it is worth asking the question.

Ugh, I had to go stand in a queue in Liverpool to get my passport renewed a couple of years ago. Not the best way to spend an afternoon.

I had to do that last year. Was going on a trip to Barcelona at February half term and realised my passport had run out - at the end of January.

And the irony is that the process of gaining a UK passport as an immigrant is relatively simple, but getting one when you came out of your mother's punani in England, live in England, and work in England seems complicated and tiresome.

Went there a while ago, I'm afraid. I spoke to a mate who lives in London, and he said it's shit there right now (England in general), but he doesn't blame the current powers-that-be, he blames Labour for fucking it all up.

If only it was as easy as that. Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem, whatever. Democracy is a mere illusion.
