The Lincoln Lawyer 2011

So called because he mainly operates out of the back of a Lincoln without obviously having an office. We have a smart arsed defence lawyer with very few principles the type the cops love to hate. Here though he gets hired by a rich family to defend the son charged with assault on a prostitute, the plot quickly thickens and becomes evident that he has been hired for more reasons than his courtroom skills. Quite a decent effort of its type.

Source Code 2011

Kinda like a sci-fi / thriller Groundhog day where Jake Gyllenhaal is an American helicopter pilot who wakes up with a new identity only to find out he is part of an experimental government program to explore the human brain and its capacity to help in the prevention of terrorism (in this instance). Having read reviews on this first I was a bit wary it would get repetetive and predictable, but I stayed with it and enjoyed how it panned out, can recommend.

Alpha Dog 2007

A movie about a kidnapping gone wrong. Every single character in the film is unlikeable, nobody to empathise with here. It kept my interest though and tells the true story of a young gang who kidnap one of their adversaries brothers and demand the money owed them. Needless to say it ends brutally.

I didn't finish Alpha Dog, and not through lack of enjoyment, I think I got distracted at the time and never ended up going back to it. From what I remember Justin Timberlake is pretty good in it.

I was talking to an American friend about Timberlake last night, to be honest I only knew he was in it from the credits. I wouldn't know him from Adam whoever he is.

Paul 2011

Fairly funny but not a patch on Shaun or Hot Fuzz,Seth Rogen is ace as the titular Alien and there are some real Belly laughs to be had but it goes flat in places....

Surely, despite its shortfalls, it still deserves a 10? You're so harsh with your ratings, GR.
