laser eye surgery

Post by randomsam on Mon Jan 11, 2010 5:01 pm

I'm thinking of having my vision corrected so that I no longer need contact lenses or glasses, has anyone here had it done? I'm going to a consultation on wednesday but I'm still in two minds about this.

Decent article here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-87835/Is-laser-eye-surgery-safe.html

I don't actually know anyone who's had it done, so I can't really say from that point of view (no pun intended).

Personally, I'd be shitting my pants if I had to have it done. Apparently it's not a huge procedure, but zapping off a layer of your eyes doesn't sound very pleasurable.

If you smell burning, it's ok, that's just your lense being burnt off ok

Works in almost all cases matey. Worth doing when you think about the number of pairs of glasses you'll pay for in a lifetime. I was going to do it myself but I'm a jobless bum.

yea its the money saving aspect I'm interested in really, cos I'm tight :P I'm paying £240 a year for lenses at the moment, so surgery would probably pay for itself after a few years.

I'm going to find out the cost tomorrow, in theory it could be as low as £400 per eye, but if I want the best results I'll probably go for the more expensive treatment which can be as much as £11-1200 per eye, and I believe at some places that the worse your eyes are, the more it costs. so for me I'm budgeting for about £2000 maximum spend. but I guess it depends on individual circumstances.

Won't your eyes just deteriorate again over time leaving you back with glasses/futuristic eye appendages?

In the future they'll probably just replace the lense with a soft artificial one.

Just remove your eyes with some spoons and then stick some stem cells in there. You will grow some proper functioning eyes in no time. You have my word on it

hmm, I'm considering that method since they've quoted me £3190 for the procedure. I've asked them to call me on friday so hopefully I'll have made my mind up whether to have it done by then.
