MMMMMMMM 32%

Post by Guest on Fri Nov 27, 2009 10:42 am

A controversial Scottish brewery has launched what it described as the world's strongest beer - with a 32% alcohol content.

Tactical Nuclear Penguin has been unveiled by BrewDog of Fraserburgh.

BrewDog was previously branded irresponsible for a 18.2% beer called Tokyo, which it then followed with a low alcohol beer called Nanny State.

Managing director James Watt said a limited supply of Tactical Nuclear Penguin would be sold for £30 each.

He said: "This beer is about pushing the boundaries, it is about taking innovation in beer to a whole new level."

Mr Watt added that a beer such as Tactical Nuclear Penguin should be drunk in "spirit sized measures".

A warning on the label states: "This is an extremely strong beer; it should be enjoyed in small servings and with an air of aristocratic nonchalance. In exactly the same manner that you would enjoy a fine whisky, a Frank Zappa album or a visit from a friendly yet anxious ghost."

However Jack Law, of Alcohol Focus Scotland, described it was a "cynical marketing ploy" and said: "We want to know why a brewer would produce a beer almost as strong as whisky."

The beer has been launched on the day alcohol was at the top of the political agenda with the unveiling of the Scottish government's Alcohol Bill including proposals for minimum pricing on drink.

Meanwhile, BrewDog's plans for a new headquarters to producing millions of bottles of beer a year have been approved by Aberdeenshire Council.

The decision was taken at a full council meeting despite having been recommended for refusal by officers because the site at Potterton, near Aberdeen, is in the green belt.

I assume that unlike a spirit you can't exactly put the lid back on and put it back in the cupboard after 'a spirit sized measure'?

A bit lavish, and rather pointless to be honest. I bet it taste fucking rank too.

Love the Zappa reference, anything that's linked to Frank is OK by me and that includes Vaclav Havel.

Trust the scots to brew this! Any of you drank Buckfast? Like a pop that get you wasted. A friend once said to me that you know when you are in Glasgow when you see guys sat at the side of the road with a bottle of buckfast in there hand!

My Point Exactly!

I think it was rather tongue in cheek.

I remember doing a training course at Turf Moor (yeah, I know) about eight years ago as part of a Prince's Trust thing, and me and a couple of other lads nipped off to buy some Buckfast on our breaks. We downed them, felt awfully pissed, and proceeded to run around cones and kick footballs for five more hours.

The joys of being young. cheers

Me!

Ordered the old man a bottle for Christmas and if he's responded to the hints there will merely be swappage.

You see OR, some of us are less piss heads and more (the word i cant spell) coinneseurs (see). It seems that people can be painted as cultured when enjoying quaffing wine, I enjoy nothing more than travelling the length and breadth of the country visiting a micro brewery and sampling their wonderful brew...

I say swap, we'll perhaps open one between us.

Some lager and beer advice from your local supermarkets:

Duvel 8% - You'll only need two, nice to open a couple of bottles at 9pm after a stressful day, sleepy juice.

Erdinger 6.5% - Far better than Hoegarden or Leffe, does mess with your mind at number four.

Le Trappist Dubel/Tripel 7/8% - Mmmmmmmmmmm

Kwak 12% - all good cept it's served in a gimmicky test tube!

Badger Champion Ale 5% - A beer for all occasions, that's not in a bad way, it's just pure awesome.

Coach House Brewery Blueberry Bitter 4.8% - From sunny Cheshire, a fruity delight.

Adnams Broadside 5.8% - Nice and dark, hint of liquorice

Oh and if you go the Marble Arch in Manchester they have their own micro brewery and have a beer with ginger in it, can't remember its name but it is class!

As a student in Bedford we used to get a 4 pint jug of scrumpy, 4 pint jug of Red Stripe (local brew Charlie Wells) and bottle of Blackcurrant Hooch for a tenner!
