Re: Results day

Post by Roverdamus on Tue Aug 24, 2010 2:28 am

I'll pass, but I'm not sure about the "flying colours" bit. I set myself a target ages ago of getting an A or above in at least half of my subjects (with A*s in Maths and French), and not getting lower than a B in any. I thought this was realistic, but I doubt it'll happen for me to be honest. But I NEED an A* in French or I'll be SERIOUSLY pissed off. I should be absolutely wiping the floor with everyone else in that subject, so I'm pretty nervous about that.

I suppose, but that's what I was aiming for, not what I expect. I probably won't get higher than a C in Tech, but it's a Mickey Mouse subject which I can leave off my CV if I fail anyway. Smile

I don't "need" one, but I WANT one. I only need a B, but it's horribly unambitious to just aim for that.

Re: Results day

Post by Roverdamus on Tue Aug 24, 2010 4:05 pm

Sad

I had a few pleasant surprises, but overall I'm pretty disappointed. Mixed emotions.

I got 6 As, 5 Bs and a C. Yes, I know that's fucking wank, I don't need to be told.

A:

Maths - I'm disappointed, but it shows that I was right when I chose not to do Further Maths at A-level, when my teacher and parents were URGING me to.

French - Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed. I'm seriously gutted about this. I must have completely fucked up the reading and/or listening paper, because I got an A* in coursework and was told my speaking was "excellent".

History - did this early entry so got the result last year. I was very pleased with it.

Spanish - didn't expect this, I was hoping for a B, but didn't think I'd get any higher. cheers

Stats - same as Spanish. Didn't expect higher than a B, the exam was fucking solid. Did all the coursework in an all-nighter the night before it was due in. cheers

IT (or Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA) as it's supposed to be called Rolling Eyes) - got equivalent to an A, apparently. I'm not too arsed about it - it's a nothing subject and it's a qualification nobody's even heard of.

B:

Core and Additional Science - counts as two GCSEs. It'd have been nice to get As in one or both, but I'm complete dogwank at Sciences so I can't complain.

RE - took this early entry as well. Was satisfied with the grade.

English Language - really disappointed. If I'd put more effort into my coursework then I'd have got AT LEAST an A. It's my fault, though.

English Literature - as above.

C:

Systems and Control (Technology) - meh.

Also, I hate people who are like, "Why are you not happy with those grades? They're well good". Sorry, but just because you're content with 2 Cs, 4 Ds, an E, 3 Fs and a U doesn't mean everyone would be. Wanikers.

Got a good set of results there, RD. Should be chuffed, I would be. I was a pillock when it came to my GCSE's. No revision, no effort, completely laid back approach and I ended up with 2 Bs, 2 Cs and a handful of Ds and Es. That's why I had to go and spend another year re-sitting my GCSE's. But that is probably the best thing to have happened to me because it kicked my backside into gear, because I stormed through the re-sits and A Levels and now passed my first year at Uni (Something which I never imagined to happen back in Year 11) What I'm trying to say is, I know you were after A* but it could have been a lot worse. Those results aren't too shabby imo, well done and don't get too down about it ok

So Dodgy actually has a point? tongue Wink

I know I shouldn't be too downhearted, I'll get over it soon enough. Hopefully this'll make me more determined to do well at college, but I'll probably just become a lazy shit again when I actually have to do stuff.

Lol, yeah that's why DG tries to take the mick. I remember telling him when I first 'met' him on 606 that I have just finished doing GSCE re-sits and that I am starting A Levels. Yeah it is frustrating when you don't get the grades you want, but it should drive you on to do better. It certainly did for me.
