Re: What I watched on TV Last night

Currently approaching season three of The Wire. Fucking hell, it's HARD to follow, even for someone like me who's fairly up on their "street" talk and dialogue. There's about a million characters to get up to speed with, a LOT of talking and not a lot of action at times, which is not a bad thing at all, but it makes it all the more difficult to keep switched on.

People told me I'd be hooked, and I am, I'm just not sure why. There's so much that's good about it, but it's the most challenging series I've ever watched, that's for sure.

I mangaed most of the street slang pretty well but when it came to "Snoop" it was mega tricky and it took me a few episodes to figure out that it wasn't a bloke.

I dunno who that is, stop spoiling it...lol Wink

The characters are great (the ones I've grasped), but I still think I'm gonna end up watching this whole fucking thing three times over, and not because I want to (like with The Sopranos or Game of Thrones), but because I'll HAVE to. It's mega complex.

I see a lot of myself in Jimmy McNulty, so much so it depresses me.

Sorry about the Snoop thing, possibly the character doesn't appear until Season 4, you'll know it straight away the Season opens with a purchase in a DIY store. I'll say no more.

On the McNulty thing you know of course that the actor (Dominic West) is English? Last week I watched "Appropriate Adult" in which he stars as the charming Fred West and makes an extremely good job of it. Two episodes, well worth a look.

I've just finished watching Treme another David Simon vehicle set in post Katrina New Orleans, a very high quality human drama focusing on the lives of very disparate individuals and featuring some great music.

I'm also watching Justified which, although not exactly high brow, has a certain charm with that Southern thaaaang going on set as it is in backwoods Kentucky. Mrs Rover laps it up although that may be something to do with Timothy Olyphant in the lead role. Very Happy

I actually had no idea that the actor who played Jimmy was English. Shocked

And he's northern. cheers So what was with that crap English accent he tried as a joke? Good acting if you can BE English, but then act American, and act badly as an Englishman within the Americanness. :/

One thing that's good about the casting is that there are no real stars, mostly local (to Baltimore) actors. I like that.

My mate recommended Treme to me just the other day, also stating that the music was great and the acting good.

Really disappointed Stringer Bell died. I expected more from the character, it pissed me off.

String was intelligent, Snoop is just a ghetto rat dyke, but I trust you if you say she's gonna be good to watch. What I've seen so far of her, she just annoys me. I find Marlo Stanfield more interesting, but I feel the end is coming soon for him as well.

Approaching the end of season 4 now, by the way. Hoping McNulty appears more in season 5, he's been mostly irrelevant this season.

Okay, so I finished The Wire; I loved it, it was memorable for true, but there were a LOT of unanswered questions and far too many characters disappear without answers. Overall, though, I really enjoyed it, and I'll happily give it a 9/10.

Bit late to the game, but finally got around to watching a few things:

Falling Skies - First season was great, and then too many characters were added and it sort of lost its way. Hopefully season 3 will improve.

Big Bang Theory - How can I have not seen it before, probably the best comedy I've seen in a while. Superb.

A Game of Thrones - Fantastic programme, although Joffrey is a cunt and I want him dead Very Happy

New Red Dwarf season next month bounce

I have been looking forward to the new Red Dwarf. For some reason even Kryton looks different (I get the others have aged, but a mechanoid?).

I've gone a bit retro and have decided to watch "Our Friends In The North" right the way through.

The 3 episodes in I'm pretty glad that I did.
